Port of Rijeka Authority

Denis Vukorepa was born on September 20, 1967, in Rijeka, Republic of Croatia. He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Rijeka obtaining the title of Maritime Engineer. He comes from a port family, traditionally connected to the Port of Rijeka.

He began his professional career in the Port of Rijeka in 1988, where he has been employed ever since. He performed various tasks, from a port transport worker to commercial jobs, graduating to the position of a marketing expert and finally President of the Management Board of the Luka Rijeka d.d. concessionaire in two terms in office from June 2002 to June 2012. The largest and most important project of his career is the Rijeka Gateway Project contracted in 2003 and financed by a World Bank loan. The total value of the port component in the Rijeka Gateway Project amounts to 180.8 million euros.

In 2011, he personally participated in, and managed the process of privatization of the port business in accordance with the model of the Rijeka Gateway project and introduced a strategic partner to the Brajdica Container Terminal. This was the first strategic partnership in the port of Rijeka and in the Croatian port system in general. The result today is an international concessionaire, a terminal operator, and a private investor whose majority shareholder is ICTSI (International Container Terminal Services Inc.) from the Philippines.

Denis Vukorepa is now the executive director of the Rijeka Port Authority in his second four-year term (2017-2025). In this position, Denis Vukorepa led the concession procedure for the Zagreb Deep Sea Container Terminal, which was realized as a part of the Rijeka Gateway Project of the World Bank. The concession agreement for the new Zagreb Deep Sea Container Terminal was signed in November of 2021, which is the largest contract in the history of the Port of Rijeka in terms of value and importance for the Port of Rijeka Authority, the Port of Rijeka, the Rijeka traffic direction and the entire port and transport system of Croatia. The concession was awarded to the APM TERMINALS B.V. consortium and the Croatian ENNA Logic d.o.o. company. APM Terminals is an integral part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk, as well as an independent port operator and one of the four largest container terminal operators in the world.

He has overseen the implementation of infrastructure projects co-financed with EU grants in the amount of 136 million euros. The goal of this investment cycle is to develop port capacities for the efficient connection of maritime, rail and road traffic, and to upgrade the port of Rijeka into a modern multimodal platform that will ensure a strong positive effect on the entire Croatian transport sector.

Denis Vukorepa has actively participated in several projects whose importance will be seen in the course of time, as they are expected to have long-term effects on the Rijeka port system, the entire Rijeka transport route, and the Croatian transport system in general.
